Integrating Carbon Offsetting into Your Website
Do you want to offer real carbon offsets to your clients or employees? South Pole can help you to integrate a webshop—that includes a sophisticated carbon footprint calculator—into your organization's website or intranet. All you need is a line of code that we provide.
The integration process is simple and straightforward. Below are examples of how the carbon webshop can be incorporated into your website.
In these examples, we do not submit information such as calculated tons of CO2 or the name of the user. In your customized version, information that is already there can be submitted, and whole steps such as calculating the tons of CO2 or inserting name and contact details can be omitted if such information is already available on your site.
The style of the webshop can be adapted to suit your own website style, including your logo and a customized welcome text. Also, you can tell us if there is a footprinting category that you don't want to offer on your webshop version. IT personnel can see more details in the source code of this page. Our professional integration team will happily assist and guide you through the integration process.

Method 1: Pop-Up or Link
A link on your website opening a pop-up or a new page: With this method, the link can optionally submit information stored in hidden fields via the POST method. In this demo we show a pop-up with a partner company logo and only a few categories, but the page could as well look exactly like South Pole's standard webshop page.
Method 2: JavaScript Frame
A link on your website opening a frame with JavaScript: For this method, a JavaScript is included in the header, and the link submits information via the GET method.
See the demo here
Method 3: iFrame
iFrame: This method lets the webshop run in a frame within your website. 450 pixels frame width are required. You can see a working example here:
Method 4: API
API: This method lets you develop your own footprinting and payment process, and interacts with your IT solution via a RESTful API. The following functions are implemented:
- list_projects: This function sends your application a xml of project data such as pictures, price, and descriptions in the language of your choice. Optionally you will only see projects which have your amount of tons available.
- lock_selected: This function locks a specific amount of a a chosen project to avoid double selling.
- purchase_locked: This function makes sure that the previously locked tons will be retired after your client has completed the purchase process.
