Over time, South Pole has identified emission reduction projects perfectly matching the requests of its clients, developing customized services ranging from project design to implementation, emission reductions monitoring and delivery of the carbon credits to the final client.
329 Overview Over the last few years, South Pole has worked in close collaboration with clients from the gas and electricity sector, who have committed to reduce their own emissions or have started promoting carbon neutral products (e.g. climate neutral gas for end consumers) on a voluntary basis. Based on specific mandates from such clients, South Pole has identified and brought to the market verified emission reductions generated in the energy sector. This has been achieved either through the selection of projects from its existing pipeline or through the development and sourcing of new project activities that matched the guidelines defined by its clients.
The technologies identified include biogas capture in waste water treatment plants, electricity generation from geothermal energy, associated gas capture, and methane avoidance and power generation in landfill projects. Implemented standards include Voluntary Carbon Standard and Gold Standard.

Thanks to its widespread geographic presence, South Pole has identified the location of the emission reduction projects in accordance with its clients’ preferences, typically ensuring that the selected host countries matched the geographic distribution of its clients’ operations worldwide. Among the selected countries are Indonesia, Thailand, Turkey, and China.
